| The AEC offers medical and/or surgical treatment for ocular
diseases of the following: eyelids, cornea, conjunctiva, uveal
tract (iris, ciliary body, and choroid), lens, vitreous, retina,
optic nerve, orbit, lacrimal system, and glaucoma. Ophthalmic
disease examples for each of the previous include:
Eyelids: entropion, ectropion, distichia, trichiasis,
lagophthalmos, tumors, lacerations
Cornea: ulcers, perforations / lacerations, infectious
/ inflammatory keratitis, edema
Conjunctiva: allergic / infectious conjunctivitis,
masses
Uveal Tract: uveitis, hyphema, trauma, tumors, cysts,
intraocular foreign bodies
Lens: cataracts, lens luxation / subluxation, lens
capsular rupture
Vitreous: syneresis, anterior hernation, hemorrhages,
vitritis, cyst
Retina: hemorrhage, edema, detachments, degeneration
/ atrophy, PRA, SARDs
Optic Nerve: infectious / inflammatory optic neuritis,
tumors, congenital defects
Orbit: abscesses, tumors, trauma, inflammatory conditions
Lacrimal: dry eye (KCS), dacryocystitis, nasolacrimal
duct obstructions
Glaucoma: primary or secondary elevated ocular pressure
