| Welcome to the home of Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialists and Veterinary Emergency Clinic |
| The doctors and staff of the specialist practices serve the needs of patients with surgical, ophthalmic, medical and dermatological diseases and injuries during the day.
The doctors and staff of the Veterinary Emergency Clinic address urgent emergencies on a walk-in basis on the weekends and after 8:00 PM during the week. This cooperative partnership allow us to offer round-the-clock care to our patients and the expertise of board certified specialists in several fields. |
| Our reception staff will welcome new and returning clients and patients, help with registration of new patients and invite clients to make themselves comfortable while the technician prepares to get the appointment started. |

A veterinary technician will lead you to one of our seven exam rooms. The vet techs are experienced in assisting with surgical, medical or ophthalmic cases and will assess the status of your pet and take a history
before the doctor comes to the room. Six of the exam rooms are shared by Pittsburgh Veterinary Surgery and Veterinary Medical Specialists and one room contains special ophthalmic equipment for the Animal Eye Clinic of Pittsburgh. |
The first floor treatment area is shared by the Animal Eye Clinic and Veterinary Medical Specialists (the internal medicine practice). The Veterinary Emergency clinic also treats patients here in the evenings and during weekends. The vet techs and doctors examine patients, perform procedures and prepare pets for surgery on the first floor. There are cages and runs for patients and an oxygen cage for patients with respiratory problems. |
 |
 | On our way upstairs to have x-rays, we will pass the isolation ward for patients with contagious diseases. There is also a special procedures room, where Dr. Johnson and the internal medicine techs perform ultrasounds and administer chemotherapy. Dr. Johnson is a board-certified internist, who routinely sees patients with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, cushings disease and cancer. |
Here in the upstairs treatment area, surgery and treatment technicians assist the surgeons with surgical preparations and post-operative care. Most surgical patients return home the day after their surgical procedure, however our doctors and technicians are able to provide care for patients who need extra time to recover. |
 |
 | All of the surgeons are board-certified and do many types of orthopedic, soft-tissue and neurosurgery. This is one of our three operating rooms. One of the operating rooms is used by Dr. Bagley for ophthalmic surgery and the two on the second floor are used by the surgical team. Dr. Bagley is the only board-certified ophthalmologist in the western Pennsylvania area. He routinely cares for patients with such conditions as glaucoma, inverted eyelids, eye trauma and cataracts. |
Here is one of our two x-ray rooms. X-rays of all types are taken by the surgical team, the internal medicine practice, and the Veterinary Emergency Clinic. The doctors also review x-rays that are brought from the patients' family veterinarians to get a complete picture of the injury or illness. We hope you enjoyed your tour of the hospital.
